Being Whole
In textual communication, all spatial/physiological senses become irrelevant. This is why it feels so much less real, because that which we take to be real is taken away from us to a very large degree. The only thing one needs is sight (or what have you) to take in the textual input, but even this isn't related to the person you're communicating with; it's related to the medium.
The communication with the person, when through text, is devoid of physiology, and is rife with the sense of judgement. This is the understanding of ideas and relating it to other ideas and drawing inferences and contemplating conclusions.
The textual or internet communication restricts us to our senses of judgement, but we are born with a body and sense organs for both kinds of sense experience: judgemental and physiological. To take away the physiological and leave only the judgemental makes us feel like there is some sense of reality missing, and would doubtless impair our ability to be whole (for we aren't using our whole apparatus). Similarly, to take away our sense of judgement and leave only the physiological would require us to be automata, or biological zombies, acting merely on physiological impulse and motor memory, which also would certainly impair our ability to be whole.
So, if one is to be whole, one needs to use the whole of themselves, their senses of judgement and their physiological senses.
(As an aside, one's sense of judgement is often taken to be the Soul, but one cannot make this leap. We can only say it is the brain in conjunction with memory and a habitual pattern of function working distantly from those other perceptions that are concerned with the external.)
