SoE update

According to the Google Reader counter, more than 5 people read this blog, which is impressive, considering a lot of what I do is literally just try to figure out how I should structure my days. Not very sexy or rock and roll. This is what this post is about.

So the first week of the schedule of equilibrium went okay and the second week worse. I'm trying to judge where I'm going wrong. I added 2 hours of Miscellaneous in order to cover for shower time and other little things that I felt need not necessarily count as free time, or any of the other categories. That wasn't such a bad idea.

I think, however, trying to keep consistent every day of the week how much time I allocate to each category is what makes things difficult, considering that each day asks of me different things. But at the same time I don't want the amount of time I spend on a particular thing to be arbitrary either, so I want there to be some consistency.

Mondays are my busiest days work-wise, so I think it's fair to stagger the study hours up to 6 and lower the DC hours down to perhaps 3 and raise the Free hours to 6 also, because I have a society thing on these days too. This would make Mondays look like this:

Mondays
Sleep: 7h (01.00-08.00 [7])
Study: 6h (10.00-11.00 [1], 12.00-13.00 [2], 14.00-15.00 [3], 15.00-16.00 [4], 16.00-17.00 [5], 17.00-18.00 [6])
DC: 3h (11.00-12.00 [1], 13.00-14.00 [2], 23.00-00.00 [3])
Free: 6h (18.00-23.00 [5], 00.00-01.00 [6])
Misc: 2h (08.00-10.00 [2])

I've just mentally figured out that someone who works 9-5 would have 7 hours work (-1 for lunch), 8 hours free (+1 that lunch hour), 7 hours sleep, and 2 hours miscellaneous getting ready time in the morning. My education is supposed to be "full time", but I'm not going to study 7 hours a day, that's implausible for me. So I'll equate a 9-5 workers work day with my Study + DC time. So the combination should be at least 7 hours, and I should, like a 9-5 hour worker, have 8 hours free. But considering my day and workload, I would feel too bad having that many hours free, so let my reconsidered Tuesday's look like:

Tuesdays
Sleep: 7h (0100-0800 [7])
Study: 5h  (1400-1500 [1], 1600-1800 [3], 2000-2200 [5])
DC: 4h (1000-1400 [4])
Free: 6h (1500-1600 [1], 1800-2000 [3], 2200-0100 [6]
Misc: 2h (0800-1000 [2])

Wednesdays
Sleep: 7h (0100-0800 [7])
Study: 5h (1000-1100 [1], 1300-1600 [4], 1700-1800 [5])
DC: 4h (1200-1300 [1], 1800-2000 [3], 2300-0000 [4])
Free: 6h (1100-1200 [1], 1600-1700 [2], 2000-2300 [5], 0000-0100 [6]
Misc: 2h (0800-1000 [2])

Thursdays
Sleep: 7h (0100-0800 [7])
Study: 5h (1300-1800 [5])
DC: 4h (1000-1300 [3], 0000-0100 [4])
Free: 6h (1800-0000 [6])
Misc: 2h (0800-1000 [2])

Fridays
Sleep: 7h (0100-0800 [7])
Study: 3h (1000-1100 [1], 1400-1600 [3])
DC: 6h (1200-1400 [2], 1600-1700 [3], 1700-1900 [5], 0000-0100 [6])
Free: 6h (1100-1200 [1], 1900-0000 [6])
Misc: 2h (0800-1000 [2])

I'll add another rule, to add more structure. As a 9-5 worker is generally done by 5 and no longer wants to think about work after that, I'll make my goal to have done all my Study hours by 7pm of every day. Incidentally, the miscellaneous hours will try to be regaled to the two hours before leaving in the morning, as Getting Ready time.

  1. It's funny you should mention how many people read this as I've always come back to read what you have to say. I somehow stumbled upon your previous blog which I assume you wrote when you were a bit younger and loved what you had to say on there. So I'm not usually one to comment, but I thought I should, just to say that yes I am one of the actual people reading and enjoying what you have to say and I think that's pretty cool. Also just a question, Why did you name this blog Love of Lights? ~Madi

    1. Hey, Madi -- I'm not sure how likely it is you'll return to the comment section here to see this response, but I'll respond anyway.

Firstly, thank you for sticking around! Wow, yeah, my old blog has been around since I was 15, which is pretty crazy, considering. Now I'm knocking on 19's door.

Secondly, I named it love of lights with the idea in mind that light is a symbol for life (there would be no life without light) and exploration (light dissipates obscuring darkness), and this blog was intended to be more of a photodiary, capturing aspects of my life as I went along, aspects that encompass both of the aforementioned things.

The photodiary element of this blog has kinda died out in recent months, but I still like the symbolic idea, so yeah! That's pretty much why.

Again, thanks for sticking around through my sometimes incoherent ramblings, ahaha. On this blog especially, I don't often consider that someone might be reading what I post, so you really are reading--almost--my pure, unadulterated thoughts.

Which is either a nice or creepy thought to leave you with, haha.

      Ciao!

  2. haha No I don't mind the ramblings you are just writing down what everyone's thoughts are really like! That's really cool, the reason you named it that, I like it! And you're a Philosophy major, right? I'm looking towards university and the big decisions coming up and I'm thinking of doing something with the social sciences and maybe even pursuing philosophy. I'm taking a Humanities class now and our unit now is philosophy and it definitely just seems to fit for me. So why did you choose that as a path, I guess? ~Madi
